Fashion Star Recap: Week 7

Last night's episode, "Mentor's Choice", paired the remaining designers with mentors who decided what each contestant would create.

Mentor-Designer Pairing:
Nicole with Ronnie, Kara, & Nikki
Jessica with Luciana & Sarah
John with Ross, Nzimiro & Orly

Kara & Ross were the first to hit the runway. Nicole directed Kara to make a full suit & John directed Ross to create flirty, not uptight dresses. Kara took a $100,000 offer for her 3 pieces from Saks while Ross' problematic dresses & poor fabric choices placed him up for elimination. Next down the runway, John directed Nzimiro to design a tailored men's suit & Jessica asked Sarah to create an elegant dress to broaden her horizons. The mentors found Nzimiro & Sarah's weaknesses as neither received offers: Nzimiro for over-detailing & Sarah for lack of structure. Up next, John mentored Orly to create a balance of soft & tough in her designs while Nicole suggested evening wear for Ronnie. Macy's bought Ronnie's designs for $50,000 explaining that they like to stock merchandise for every occasion. Meanwhile, Orly received offers from Saks & H&M and opted for $70,000 from H&M since she has not sold to them yet. In the final round, Nicole asked for a mod-mini from Nikki and Jessica suggested something structured and classy from Luciana. Luciana's floral design took $70,000 from H&M and was her best creation yet as she proves her ability to grow as a designer.

Again this week, four designers were up for elimination: Nikki, Nzimiro, Ross & Sarah. With Nikki & Sarah in the bottom two weeks in a row, it's safe to assume that 1 of them will be eliminated. Nzimiro got the save from the mentors & Terron reminded Sarah that neither Saks nor Macy's has bid on her designs; she is not the next Fashion Star.
